You may be in dire need of a fresh start or a change of scenery, but you’ll have to go through some hard work in order to get there. At least if you plan on permanently moving somewhere new.

Moving can be an intimidating process for a variety of reasons. There’s the fear of leaving behind the life with which you previously became so acquainted—including any friends, family, and favorite spots you may departing. Then there’s the fear of coming somewhere totally knew and whatever that means for you and anyone moving with you—like getting to know your new home or insuring your kids will be in a good school district.

In order to help ease any worries you may have about your new home in Lancaster, Ohio, we’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know about this awesome neighborhood right outside Columbus. 1. Super schools and school district

If you’re bringing kids with you on this move, you’re probably anxious to find out where they will be going to school (even if they aren’t too interested themselves). Starting a new school can be super fun, especially if it’s part of a great school district in Lancaster.

Lucky for you Lancaster newcomers, your kids will be joining an awesome school district come the fall. With six elementary, two middle, and one high school, Lancaster City School District will put your kids on the path to success. AP and gifted programs as well as an awesome teaching staff make sure kids learn to be their best while having the most fun.

If you’re more interested in going the private route, there are multiple private schools in Lancaster to choose from. St. Mary Elementary School teaches students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and Fairfield Christian Academy houses students from Pre-K to 12th grade.

2. Small town with a big history

Whether you’re a history buff or not, you will definitely find something interesting about Lancaster’s history.

For one, Lancaster is the home of William Tecumseh Sherman, a major general for the Union Army during the Civil War. He was known as one of “the most widely renowned of the Union’s military leaders next to U.S. Grant.” William and his brother John—a famous Civil War politician—were two of 11 children who grew up in the Lancaster house that was built for the Sherman family in 1811.

While the house went through some minor changes as the Sherman brothers grew older, such as housing new residents, the house still bears the family name. Now the Sherman House Museum, visitors can visit where the Sherman brothers grew up, and tour rooms that were restored to look exactly as they did during the 1800s.

Other fun facts about Lancaster include its title of the Glass City—due to the city being the home of major glassware manufacturer Anchor Hocking. Also, Lancaster became a settling point for many German immigrants as early as the 1800s. Read here to find out more fun facts about this awesome city.

3. Plenty of things to do

There’s no need to worry about being bored, because there are plenty of fun things to do in Lancaster year round.

Rising Park

This expansive park in northern Lancaster offers some of the best views in Fairfield County. Brave visitors can climb Mount Pleasant, the park’s 250 foot bluff with a peak that makes a perfect spot for a sunset, or just to take in the expanse of the city.

If you’re not in the climbing mood, you can also play tennis, enjoy the playground, or sit and relax with a picnic by the pond.

Rockside Winery and Vineyards

No need to fly all the way to Wine Country. Lancaster is home to the amazing Rockside Winery and Vineyards, a gorgeous sprawl grape vines and some of the best wine in Ohio. Stop by this winery for some awesome views and a wine tasting (no reservation required).

Rockside will also keep you plenty busy during their summer season. Some of the fun weekly events include live music every Saturday at 5 p.m., Happy Hour on Thursdays from 5-8 p.m., and free winery tours every Saturday (these require a reservation). Hocking Hills Canopy Tours

If you’ve always wanted to zipline in Ohio—or are just in the mood for adventure—then Hocking Hills Canopy Tours has got you covered. Here’s a list of some of the wild outdoor adventures Hocking Hills has in store for its visitors:

  • Canopy Tour. This is just as incredible as it sounds. Climb a rope course-esque trail—ladders, bridges, and all kinds of wooden footholds—through this awesome greenery.
  • Ziplining. If you want to experience the canopy tour at a faster pace, then ziplining would be perfect. Hocking Hills offers all kinds of zipline courses that vary in speed and distance. There’s even a Butterfly zipline tour for kids! They also offer a Moonshine tour if you’re brave enough to try this at night.
  • Segway Tour. Time to get your Paul Blart: Mall Cop on. Keep on the ground with a segway tour through the sights of the area.

No need to worry about being bored in Lancaster, because this neighborhood is super close to the best zipline in Ohio.

4. Absolutely gorgeous town
