Earth Day Celebration: Cruddy Creek
For a fun and educational experience, head to Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park for their Earth Day celebration. The park contains a 14,000 square foot nature center with a live stream and interactive exhibits. There is also a 14-acre pond called Osprey Lake where you can fish. It even has a special area designated for dogs! Roaming around the park are eleven bison, so keep an eye on them while you’re there.
For the earth day celebration, you will get to spend time at the living stream while learning why rivers and creeks get polluted. You will also learn how you can help the environment. The event is free and it will take place on April 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Relay for Life of Grove City
Do something good for your body while helping a good cause by signing up for Relay For Life this year! It is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and is completely organized by volunteers. The race is scheduled to take place May 5 from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Eagle Pavilion, a four-season shelter at Rotary Lake in Fryer Park.
There will be a special survivor/caregiver walk as well as a Luminaria ceremony. During the ceremony, everyone who has been touched by cancer is represented with a Luminaria. Each light represents a life, whether it be one taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer, or one still fighting the disease.
Grove City Farmers Market
For over 25 years, local farmers have partnered with the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce to bring the best of their harvests to the citizens of Grove City. Every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. visitors can peruse through the various fruits, vegetables, and homemade goods. You’ll definitely want to make it out to the market at least once or twice this summer!
Summer Sizzle Concert Series
From June 1 to August 17, free concerts will be held almost every Friday in the Goerge Edge Music Park on Broadway. Visitors usually bring a lawn chair to relax in as they watch the concerts. Most people will also grab a bite to eat with friends and family at a nearby restaurant before attending the concert. No matter what you decide to do, you are guaranteed to have a good time here!
Heritage Celebration
Presented by Grove City and the Southwest Franklin County Historical Society, this annual event lets visitors experience everyday life in an emerging Ohio farm community from the late 1800’s through hands-on experiences, building tours, interactions with re-enactors and demonstrations. Roaming musicians will even be performing throughout the event.
Some of the event’s features include a live demonstration of metalworking techniques by a blacksmith, an area for horseshoe tossing, and craft making. Visitors can wander through log cabins and barns, a one-room schoolhouse, and a general store. They will leave with a greater knowledge of how their ancestors lived as well as the history of Century Village.
The event is set to take place June 2 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
No matter what you decide to do, make sure you go out and enjoy the nice weather this summer. You definitely deserve it after this seemingly unending winter.
