It champions allowing adults (21 years and above) to buy 2.5 ounces of weed and cultivate a maximum of six plants per individual.

Recreation Cannabis Legality in Ohio

At the moment, recreational cannabis is illegal in Ohio. The current state laws don’t permit you to buy, possess, use, sell, distribute, or create marijuana products. 

Failure to adhere to Ohio’s cannabis laws may attract fines or jail sentences based on the herb’s amount and the individual’s intent. 

The state decriminalized simple consumption and possession of tiny amounts (up to 3.5 ounces). The offense is treated as a minor misdemeanor in this scenario, attracting a maximum penalty of $150. Typically, this fine doesn’t feature in your criminal records. 

If you exceed 3.5 ounces, you enter the criminal category. The state may consider it a standard misdemeanor or a felony based on the weed quantity, and you may face varying charges.

Medicinal Cannabis Legality in Ohio

Marijuana laws in Ohio permit the possession, consumption, sale, purchase, production, and distribution of medical cannabis, thanks to House Bill 523. 

The state’s Medical Marijuana Control Program governs the bill’s implementation by licensing cultivators, processors, laboratories, and dispensaries. It also handles patient and caregiver registration to oversee the sound administration of the herb medicinally.

The law authorizes patients with qualifying conditions to seek a certified physician’s recommendation to obtain marijuana. 

Once duly registered in the program, you get a medical marijuana card. Use it to purchase weed from a dispensary approved by the Board of Pharmacy.

The program only permits a limited supply of medicinal cannabis to patients (not exceeding 90 days). So far, the state boasts over 60 licensed marijuana dispensaries to ease distribution.
