The Ugly Mug
We know for a fact that awesome nightlife is on your list of “must-haves” when scoping out locations. Here at The Ugly Mug, you can have it all. The recently rebranded “Club 33” is now much more of a club than it ever was before. Large stage, good drink deals, and great people. Perfect bar food if you’re just there to catch a game, but stay later in the night for the real fun. Live music performances are what makes The Ugly Mug make you come back again. Oh, and the super-friendly service, too!
Pro-tip: Order the wings.
National Barber Museum
Hipsters, beware: you will love this museum. The National Barber Museum and Hall of Fame is just one piece of Canal Winchester’s rich history that you’ll want to see. With unique chairs, razors, and of course, pictures of some of the first barbers ever. The timeline goes back to 5000 BC, and admission is only $5 for adults. You’ll appreciate this educational daytime adventure and then rush to call your own stylist immediately after (you can’t live in the same town as the Barber Hall of Fame and let your own head go).
Pro-tip: There are only three items in the gift shop so you should probably buy them all.
Hidden Lakes Winery
It’s likely you’ll be needing a venue for some of the nicer events in your life, and Canal Winchester can provide. The Hidden Lakes Winery (and Distillery!) is “love at first sip”. This classy establishment looks out over gorgeous lakes that are perfect for staring off into the distance. Plus you will have award-winning wine in hand (and maybe one in the other, too). Specialty events commonly held here include private dinners, weddings, banquets, and tours. Any reason you can think of to have a memorable party would best be spent at Hidden Lakes.
Pro-tip: Live music Wednesday and Sundays, Ladies Night on Thursday
Pickerington Ponds
Rejuvenation and relaxation are key to balancing a stressful lifestyle. The best way Canal Winchester can help with that is with Pickerington Ponds. It is the perfect place in town for both of those rehabilitation techniques. These breathtaking ponds attract all sorts of wildlife: birds, deer, beavers, foxes, as well as dogs and their masters. The site offers a handful of lodging areas, as well as trails and picnic spots. Great for the nature fiend, the exercise fiend, the animal fiend, or just plain old pond fiends.
Pro-tip: Bring bug spray
The Slate Run Living Historical Farm
Embrace the agricultural history of the wonderful town of Canal Winchester at the Slate Run Living Historical Farm. This amazing experiential tour takes you back to the life of Ohio farmers in the 1880’s. Expect to see authentic clothing, old style chores being completed, and all sorts of domestic animals. The gothic style farmhouse was originally built in 1856 before it was later restored and turned into the interactive tour it is today. A Metro Park program, it is perfect for all ages, and great for school field trips.
Pro-tip: Check the hours on their website, they’re seasonal!
