Duke Park

Duke Park is a cover little park with a sports field, lots of open green space, and a pond. On a sunny day it’s a great place to bring your family and throw the football around, or try some soccer. Maybe have a picnic! This is a classic little park, no frills.

Troy City Park

Troy City Park is another low-frill park, and this one has an old playground as well. There’s heavy shade here, which is perfect for if you want to lounge around in the grass and get out of the sun. The park provides plenty of parking spaces, and you can take a relaxing walk or run along the riverside.

Treasure Island Park

Treasure Island Park is a popular park for couples and kids. It can be used as a romantic spot, with food options and a boathouse so you and your beau can kayak or canoe across the river. Children and teens love it for its food court options, of course, and who doesn’t love to adventure out into the water? Plus, the little boathouse on the shoreline is adorable. Twin Arch Reserve

Twin Arch Reserve is a tinier little park area along the river. It’s great for taking a stroll, running, or riding your bike. If you’re big into fishing, this isn’t a bad spot. Locals go to this Reserve for its fishing, and to just sit and relax near the river. Hearing the rushing water stream is quite calming, and bonus points if you catch a fish or two.

Farrington Reserve

Farrington Reserve, or the Great Miami River Recreational Trail, is a little park like Twin Arch Reserve but provides something wildly different. This Reserve is known for its lovely waterfall, which you can hit if you just follow the trail right up north. This is another relaxing spot, a tiny little secret slice of nature Heaven in Troy, Ohio.

A little fancier than Troy’s parks, Troy’s preserves offer education in the thick of nature

Hobart Urban Nature Preserve

The Hobart Urban Nature Preserve is known by locals as a great place to walk dogs, play sports, and spot wildlife. Deer run rampant in this area of Troy- you can’t miss them. As you walk along the winding trails, keep an eye out for families and hoards of deer.

Brukner Nature Center

Brukner Nature Center is a top spot for families. Children can see various forest animals in a safe environment, and the hiking trails in the woods are top notch. Check out the bird watching room, a cute little cabin for trying to spot as many types as you can.

Lost Creek Reserve and Knoop Agricultural Heritage Center

If you’re less into the woods and lean towards the farm life, Lost Creek Reserve is for you. Their agricultural center boasts a variety of farm animals, including horses and turkeys. Take your kids on a horse ride, or take a walk down the pathways with your dog.

John A. Wannemacher Nature Reserve

This reserve is known for its grassland scenery, a change of pace from more regular grass parks. Nature walks are the most popular activity here, as the trails are well preserved and ready for your boots to stomp on them.

Big Woods Reserve

This is a prime spot for photographing all types of birds and bees. Flowers too- this reserve is known for its variety of wildlife and beauty, a great spot any time of the year but especially in the fall as the leaves start to turn. Take a walk or play in the creek with your kids- you can’t go wrong here.

WACO Air Museum and Aviation Learning

Want to learn about airplanes? Or maybe your children do? Head on down to WACO (pronounced like ‘taco’) and take a look at their educational aviation exhibits. The museum is small but mighty, a popular spot for students and teachers.

Overfield Tavern Museum

This museum is housed in the oldest surviving building in Troy. This old tavern has been well taken care of, and doesn’t serve as a tavern anymore but is nonetheless interesting to walk through. The museum has local artifacts from the 1800s on, around when the tavern was built.

The Museum of Troy History is a hidden gem, so tiny you may miss it. Considered a must-see by locals, this museum houses abundant history about the town, with old artifacts and the like. The museum also hosts youth-oriented programs for those interested in the town’s history from a young age.

Old Mason Winery

Not your typical museum of sorts, the winery itself is old as time and a great Troy artifact. Take a gander through their wine varieties, test a bunch- isn’t this a museum in and of itself, a place of discovery and history? The winery has a vineyard and wine tastings galore.
