Getting outside is a great break from the noise and stress we all experience in our day-to-day lives. What better way to do that than by going camping! Camping allows you to disconnect from modern technologies and reconnect with loved ones. Simply put, getting to spend time outdoors with those you are closest to is arguably the best aspect of camping!

However, finding the perfect campground can be a difficult task. It can be hard to tell what campground is right for you based solely on pictures you find on the internet. You never know if the photographer only took pictures of the most scenic aspects or of the few sites that look the way they do in the pictures.

Mohican Reservation Campgrounds and Canoeing

Mohican Reservation Campgrounds is located on a beautiful strip of land just south of Loudonville. They have a beautiful river for canoeing just east of the campground. If you do not have a canoe, you can easily rent one for the day from the campground. The campground itself is clean and well taken care of. Located on such a historic piece of land, you’re sure to have a great experience. 

If you happen to be attending this campground in September, go experience the Great Mohican Pow-Wow! A Pow-Wow is the Native American way of celebrating their rich heritage by gathering together for food, dancing, and so much more. By attending, you’ll get to experience their rich culture in a way few others can. 

One of the best parts of the Pow-Wow is getting to hear the people sing as they dance. Native Americans are well-known for their beautiful songs and you would get to hear them first-hand! If you plan on going, be sure to book your tickets well in advance as they tend to go quickly.

The campground was founded back in 2011 and is locally owned and maintained. They take pride in making sure that their guests have a unique experience that leaves them with a sense of fulfillment and pride in all that nature has to offer.

This is the perfect place to go if you have an RV that you’d like to bring along. They accommodate for all shapes and sizes of RV’s and provide electricity for them as well. On top of that, they provide free Wi-Fi so if you need to stay updated with work or friends you can. They are also pet friendly meaning you do not have to leave your family friend behind!

If you enjoy hiking, there are many different trails you can choose from. As stated earlier, this campground is considered one of Amish Country’s most beautiful locations and hiking is the perfect way to experience that! Located on 220 acres of beautiful land, this campground provides scenic views, picturesque landscapes, and many different types of activities!

For the activities, Whispering Hills sponsors all kinds of events that are fun for all ages. For the younger population, they have events like ‘Wake the Bears Weekend’ in which kids get to sing songs, make arts and crafts, and even make their own trail mix. As for the parents and older generations, try their ‘Fiesta Weekend’ for a similar event made for a bit older of a crowd. They even have miniature golf which is fun for any age group!

Whispering Hills has over 200 RV sites available for nearly any size of camper. If you do not have a camper, don’t fret! They have many different cabins that can be rented out and are located close to all the events previously mentioned. No matter what your situation, Whispering Hills can accommodate and provide a fun experience for the whole family!

Turkey Hollow Campground

If you are looking to truly disconnect from technology, look further than Turkey Hollow Campground. This campground only allows tent camping, meaning you get to experience nature for all its worth. By camping in a tent, you take in more of nature in a way you simply could not experience by utilizing an RV. 

If you’re worried about getting bored with only a tent available, this is simply not the case. They have many different scenic trails available for hiking at any time of the day. If you like to fish for the fun of it, they provide rich waters perfect for catch and release fishing. If neither of these suit your fancy, simply build a fire and spend some quality time with your loved ones. After all, that’s what camping is all about! 

Perhaps the best part about Turkey Hollow Campground is how cheap it is! For a little over 20 dollars, you get a full campsite to yourself for two adults. If you bring more people, it is only an additional charge of three dollars per adult. Bring the kids along too as children 12 and under get to camp for free! This certainly makes Turkey Hollow the most budget-friendly campground on this list.

Timbercrest Camp and RV Park

Timbercrest Camp and RV Park is one of the best places to go for a classic campground experience. Located right in the heart of Amish Country, this campground has nearly every amenity required for that vintage camping feel. From a shower house to a laundry room, Timbercrest campground has everything you need for an authentic get-away. 

Their RV sites have a full hook up for water, sewer, and electric meaning you do not have to do away with modern essentials. Their sites are also pull-through which means you will have a much easier time getting the RV in and out of the site. 

If you are only bringing a tent, that is no problem! Their tent sites are back-in and provide an electrical outlet of 30 amps. Camping in a tent while still having electricity available brings you the best of both worlds, modern and past. To make it even better, all of their sites are pet friendly so Fido gets to come along too!

In terms of activities, they have a safe and clean playground for the kids. For the adults, you can play cornhole or horseshoes with materials provided! To experience the beauty of nature, take a walk on any of their many different nature trails whenever you’d like to. They are also located near many different towns like Sugarcreek and Walnut Creek which you could go explore, shop, and experience!

These could include canoeing, swimming, fishing, miniature golf, and many more! No matter what your family likes to do, there is likely an event being hosted perfect for you and your family. 

If you’re coming to the area to experience Amish Country, look no further. Toodik Campground is located very close to many Amish settlements. You can browse their craft and furniture shops, shop at local flea markets, or even experience their famous cheese factories! They have a literature rack with maps and brochures to help you find the perfect Amish event to experience their culture.

The campground is most known for its authentic canoeing and kayaking experience. You can bring your own kayak or rent one from the campground. You’ll be kayaking on Lake Fork, a branch off of the Mohican River. They are the only campground who permits kayaking in this area which ensures your experience will be authentic and unbothered. Kayaking is one of the best ways to experience the area’s natural beauty and, best of all, is great fun for any age!
