Columbus, Ohio, ranks fifth among the country’s best cities for starter homes
Columbus, Ohio, ranked fifth among the country’s best cities for buying a starter home in a recent study done by StorageCafe, a nationwide self storage space marketplace. Columbus is also the best-placed large city in the ranking. Researchers considered homes under 1,700 square feet as starter homes and looked at a variety of metrics to obtain the ranking, including median property value, number of starter home sales, housing affordability, and cost of living, among others.
The best cities for buying a starter home are Fort Wayne, Indiana, Columbia, Maryland, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Other large cities where first-time homebuyers have a decent chance of finding a starter home are Indianapolis, IN, the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and Nashville, TN.
Top 10 U.S. cities for entrepreneurs and startups in 2018
In a recent article published by Business.org, researchers analyzed the best places for starting a business. They emphasized that you can’t “throw a dart at a US map and expect overnight success,” and offered a list of cities that had a population of young adult dwellers, offered higher education, great local employment, affordable rent, and decent start-up surges.
Among popular cities like San Francisco, CA and Boston, MA, Columbus, OH made the ranks due to its “large, educated young adult population and solid numbers for start-up growth.” In addition, the Smart City grant of $277 million is set to boost the city’s infrastructure, where rent has remained affordable.

The County Health Rankings gathers information to “create healthier places to live, learn, work and play.” This past month, Columbus ranked highly on their list due to factors such as health behaviors, clinical care, and physical environment. These studies include details such as percentage of smokes, uninsured individuals, number of dentists and primary care physicians, poverty levels, and air and water pollution. After a full report, Columbus scored well, keeping it high on the list for top locations in the state.
Top companies for executive women
Working Mother published a detailed list from the National Association for Female Executive (NAFE) which included cities where “37 percent of senior managers are women, while almost half of promotions to manager level and above go to women.” Among the long list includes companies housed in Columbus, making the city a great place for women to work.
Best airports in North America
Along with business and health, Columbus has earned the accolade of having one of the best airports in North America in a list released by Airports Council International. Earning an Airport Serve Quality Award for “industry recognition of the best airports in the world”, Columbus Airport (CMH) tied for third place with other major airports such as Pittsburgh Airport (PIT) and Tampa Airport (TPA).

Last but certainly not least, Columbus recently ranked on the the 40/40 List from QSR Magazine for best places to start a fast-casual eatery. This trend in dining has taken over many major cities, and Columbus is among them, including City Barbeque. The restaurant, cofounded by Kansas-native Rick Malir, has brought BBQ to a whopping “35 locations in 6 states”, advertising “backyard hospitality.” Along with City Barbeque, Piada Italian Street Food has made a claim in the Buckeye State, specializing in the Italian take on burritos, along with pastas and salads from their seasonal menus.
