The 14th largest city in the country is home to the world’s biggest multifaceted sports festival in history. The Arnold Classic is about to embark on its 31st anniversary attracting 22,000 athletes from all over the world. Competitors chisel and sculpt their bodies to strengthen and craft their muscles for the famous stage.

What is the Arnold Classic?

The Arnold Classic is a professional bodybuilding athletic competition. Co-founders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer created the event in 1989 seeking to build a sporting event that helped other athletes conquer their fitness dreams. Lorimer served in the Navy and FBI, and then went on to team up with Schwarzenegger to promote the first Arnold Classic.

The former governor is a multi-talented hunk with skills in acting, fitness, business, and politics. With an impressive resume, Schwarzenegger gives opportunities to other athletes wishing to accomplish their fitness goals and aspirations. The competition grew over the years to become a sports festival with 80 different sporting events.

The Arnold Classic is held at the Battelle Grand Ballroom in the Columbus Convention Center on March 2, 2019. The Arnold Classic is part of the Arnold Sports Festival, a four-day event that is considered one of the most prestigious bodybuilding competitions in history.

The judging is based off of performance, lean physique, symmetry, and muscular size. The winner receives a check for $130,000, a Hummer car, and a Rolex watch. A male bodybuilder is crowned winner for the Arnold Classic competition.

Athletes educate themselves on nutritional value and exercise to achieve ideal health.

Strength training is performed all year round to prepare for the world- renowned Arnold Classic championship. The competition allows professional athletes the opportunity to present their strength and results of their hard work to inspire others to build stamina.

Bodybuilding is the use of resistance exercises to strengthen and sculpt muscles to build a defined physique. The sport decreases fat and develops muscle throughout the body. Diet and exercise rapidly transforms the body to excel and expand. Building muscle mass is a lifestyle change and a positive way to increase confidence and decrease stress.

The use of resistance exercises to utilize muscle strength is noted as the safest sport to gain health and reported the least amount of injuries.

What events can you find at the Arnold Classic?

The Arnold Classic consists of 80 unique events spread over four days each spring. The Arnold Sports Festival is going to be held February 28-March 3, 2019. When you attend the Arnold Classic, you can expect to see the following events:

The International Federation of Professional Bodybuilders pro league includes many different divisions to build an athlete’s career.

Fitness International

The invite only event gives the ladies a chance to compete and show off their skills as an athlete. Women perform a dance routine for the judges showcasing their fitness. The judging criterion includes choreography, flexibility, and body tone. Eleven of the fiercest competitors will battle it out for the top spot in 2019.

Figure International

Judges are looking for conditioning and proportion in the women’s body. The competitors wear bathing suits to strut their lean and fit bodies. Skin tone and makeup are also judged in this division.

Bikini International

Top place winner receives $7,000 and a coveted champion title in the Bikini International. Judges place emphasis on curves and originality in this division. The women’s attitude and presentation are also taken into account during the event. Proportion is everything for this competition and the ladies work to obtain the same muscle size throughout the body.

Women’s Physique

The athletic women perform a 90 second routine to music that shows off their physique to the judges. The muscle definition in this division is more developed than any other women’s division throughout the sports festival.

Bonac won the coveted 1st place title at the Arnold Classic USA championship in 2018 and is known as one of the most outstanding African American bodybuilders to ever touch the stage. Winning his first professional competition at the Arnold Classic, Bonac worked consistently hard with a proper strength training regimen and diet. Originally from Ghana, Bonac is famous for his lean physique and dedication to the sport. He will appear on stage in the 2019 Arnold Classic.

McMillan holds the title of the 2017 Arnold Classic USA champion and came in 3rd place in 2018 in the same competition. A South Carolina native, McMillan has served in the US army and currently is an army instructor. Truly a multi-talented athlete, Curry grew up in Nashville, Tennessee playing football and track. Curry won 1st place in the Arnold Classic Australia in 2017. He became a personal trainer and his fitness grew beyond his wildest dreams. His emphasis on muscle hypertrophy, the building of muscle mass, is at the forefront of his body workout routine.

An athlete to watch, Kuclo won 1st place in the Indy Pro and finished 5th in the 2018 Arnold Classic USA. A firefighter and paramedic, Kuclo ‘s appearance last year was his big return to the pro stage and he showed the judges his veteran skills through his muscle strength. He has been pro for a total of five years and is expected to finish strong in the 2019 competition.
