9. The Dock

Enter a tropical paradise at The Dock! In 1944, Jim and Patricia Schumann redesigned Jim’s childhood home into The Dock Food & Spirits. This boat-shaped restaurant goes all out with the atmosphere, complete with a pier-style entrance ramp for wheelchairs; working fireplaces, waterfalls, and ponds; and live island music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Alongside a fully stocked bar, with happy hour every day from 4-7 p.m. the menu offers a wide array of seafood, meat, pasta, and dessert options.

10. Brandeberry Winery

Wine is of the essence at Brandeberry Winery. With a history of making award-winning amateur wines, Jim Brandeberry decided to open this winery after retiring as a college professor. The vineyard grows Vidal, Cayuga, and Seyval grapes to craft, onsite, the handmade wines Brandeberry Winery is so famous for.

With a specialty in fruit wine, Brandeberry Winery has won several awards for Best Fruit Wine at the Ohio Wine Competition for its Blackberry and Black Dog concoctions.

Just half an hour away in Dayton is The National Museum of the U.S. Airforce. Filled to the brim with Air Force history, guests have the opportunity to browse countless galleries and exhibits to enrich their knowledge and witness feats of incredible engineering.

At the museum, you’ll be able to see the makes and models of real planes used by the Air Force over the years. 19. The Westcott House

Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the most influential and important architects of the modern age, and one of his works is right next door to Enon--the Westcott House. This house is a perfect embodiment of Wright’s Prairie School architectural design. 20. The Davidson Interpretive Center

The Davidson Interpretive Center is a free historical educational center documenting an important piece of Native American history. The building is situated on what was once a large Shawnee settlement. As the Shawnee were allies to the British during the Revolutionary War, one of the largest battles of the American Revolution west of the Allegheny Mountains occurred at the Peckuwe Village in 1780, resulting in the Shawnee and British being driven out and the opening of the Northwest Territory for the Americans.

So stop by the Davidson Interpretive Center for a visit today to view a model of a Shawnee warrior and walk around the site of the Battle of Peckuwe.

22. The Glen Helen Nature Preserve

The Glen Helen Nature Preserve is 1,004 acres of awe-inspiring wildlife you must see today. It features more than 20 miles of trails accessible by the public, including 2.5 miles alongside the scenic Little Miami River. Other important landmarks include a rock column called Pompey’s Pillar; a Hopewell burial mound called Orators Mound; and the Yellow Spring, which the town of Yellow Springs is named after.

23. The Estel Wenrick Wetlands

The word “wetland” tends to conjure up images of stink and slime, but anyone who’s been to the Estel Wenrick Wetlands would surely disagree. Here, trails weave through 144 acres of rich wetland and woodland, something hikers, birdwatchers, and general nature-lovers can all enjoy. The Wetlands are home to over 200 identified plant species, indigenous waterfowl such as the Great Blue Heron and Wood Duck, and the American Beaver.

24. Mad River Gorge & Nature Preserve

Ever since climbing was legalized at Mad River Gorge & Nature Preserve in 2017, climbers from all over Ohio and beyond have flocked to test their skills on these magnificent dolomite cliffs. The cliffs ascend up to 50 feet, making them some of the best natural climbing cliffs in the Midwest. In addition, there are gorgeous, scenic hiking trails and access to the Mad River for those who’d prefer a tamer way to spend their day.

25. Rich History

You’ve probably caught glimpses of this in the previous sections, but the Village of Enon and the surrounding area is home to a lot of interesting and important history. Enon was platted in 1838 and named for the river Aenon, where John the Baptist was said to have performed baptisms in Israel. Enon is also home to an 1830 log house, one of the oldest buildings in the area.

In addition to that, one of the most impressive landmarks in Enon is the Enon Adena Mound--or the Knob Prairie Mound. This is the second-largest conical Native American burial mound in Ohio, believed to have been built by the Adena culture that inhabited the area from 800 BCE to 1 CE.

The town also records the history of its inhabitants and daily life in great detail. The Enon Historical Society preserves local heritage by storing genealogy information, DVDs of events and interviews, and historical photos.
