History of Hebron

Before Moving to Hebron, Get to Know the History of Your New Home

Hebron, Ohio was founded by John Smith in 1827. It was once known to be a center of agriculture and industry by the pioneers who lived there. It was known for being an important link in the Ohio Canal System. It was once filled with warehouses, distilleries, tanneries, and sawmills.

Hebron moved into a different era with the completion of the National Trail. The National Trail was a way of transportation for people at the time. People rode through in stagecoaches and on horseback. It is now known as the National Trail Raceway. Founded in 1963, it became the fifth largest racing facility in the U.S.

A terrible fire that swept through the town brought years of decline to the village. The fire had destroyed most of the business district. Many residents went bankrupt. The making of electric “Interurban Cars” brought prosperity to the town for three decades until it went down. The village eventually found prosperity through its water system facilities. Hebron pumps water to hundreds of customers nearby. Village administrators handle the water system. The village is overall run by a Mayor and a council. Hebron has had a bumpy past, but is enjoying a wonderful present and planning for an even better future.
