Prairie Oaks Metropark
Prairie Oaks has almost 500 acres of lush prairies, grasslands, and lakes that offer a lot to visitors. Feel free to bike, bring your children to play, walk your pets, go horseback riding, or have a picnic in one of the lodges. Anyone is allowed to use the lakes for boating, fishing, and even kayaking. Additionally, in the winter, the Bridle and Coneflower trails are open for cross-country skiing. You can have a great time no matter what season it is! This park is a tranquil spot where you can experience an ideal family day-out.
Ox Roast
Ever wanted to try roasted ox? Or think you’d enjoy being a part of a unique community tradition? Every year (usually over Memorial Day Weekend) West Jefferson holds an Ox Roast. It’s a chance to eat some delicious meat along with other foods, but it’s also a weekend-long chance to show off your personal skills.You can enter yourself in a specific contest to win bragging rights, participate in a car show, or pageant. Last year there was a bike tour and 5k race called the “Running of the Ox” (how fitting). On the last day of the festival, there is a talent show followed by an auction for prized ox roast beef.
Kelton House
The Kelton House is a historic museum and garden that you definitely want to visit. It was built in the 19th century by the Kelton family and the Greek and Italian architectural styles will make you feel as if you stepped into a fairytale book. Tours are self guided and require no reservation. However, you can choose from special tour options to learn more about the building’s history. We suggest looking into the “Tour and Tea with Sophia” where Sophia Kelton, the mother of the family, becomes your personal guide, showing you around her home. Afterwards, you get to have afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and strawberry trifle!
Easton Town Center
Easton is like the world’s largest outdoor mall that has every store you could ever want. It’s the Midwest’s primary place for shopping, dining, and entertainment, and it’s only a 30 minute drive away from West Jefferson. There are 60 restaurants, offering a diverse range of cuisine, from Turkish to Mexican to Italian. It’s probably safe to assume whatever you’re craving, Easton has it somewhere. They also have a 30-screen movie theater so you can catch a show after dinner. They’re always hosting different activities, from cooking classes to Sounds on the Town, so be sure to check their list so you don’t miss one of Easton’s events!
Zoombezi Bay
Zoombezi bay is a waterpark of pure aquatic amazement. It has 17 waterslides, a wave pool, a massive lazy river, and more. If you’re into tanning or just relaxing, the private cabanas can make you feel like you’re at the beach, and give you the quality you-time you deserve. Zoombezi Bay is attached to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. You could make a weekend trip out of it, going to see the animals one day and ride some waterslides the next!
