Original Recipe

If you’re from Ohio, you most likely have this recipe engrained in your mind forever. But, just in case you don’t or if you need a little refresher, we’ve provided it for you! You’ll need:

  • 1 ½ cups peanut butter
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 4 cups semisweet chocolate chips

In a large bowl, you’ll begin by mixing the peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and confectioners’ sugar. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and place them on waxed paper-lined cookie sheets. You’ll want to place a toothpick into the top of each so you can dip them later! Chill in the freezer until firm for about 30 minutes. When they’re ready, melt chocolate chips to dip the frozen peanut butter balls in. Leave a small portion of peanut butter showing at the top to get the Buckeye look!

Dark Chocolate

For this yummy recipe, all you’d have to do is switch out the semi-sweet morsels for bittersweet chocolate chips! Stick to the same ingredients as the original and you’ll have rich, dark chocolate Buckeyes in no time!

White Chocolate

White chocolate Buckeyes are as easy to make as the original and dark chocolate recipe. And, you’ve guessed it, just swap the chocolate! Creamy peanut butter paired with silky white chocolate is an irresistible combination. People go nuts for these guys and with good reason.

Peanut Butter Oreo

This recipe is truly one of a kind. Take your peanut butter Buckeye to the next level by adding a surprise Oreo cheesecake filling. You’ll need:

  • 20 oreos
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups icing or powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ cups dark chocolate (or milk chocolate if you prefer)

Get your cookie sheet ready and begin with the oreo filling. Pop your oreos into a food processor until they resemble fine crumbs. Then mix in the softened cream cheese and continue mixing until it becomes soft. Roll them into balls and place them in the fridge while you make the rest of the filling. Add the peanut butter, butter, icing sugar into a large mixing bowl. Beat with a mixer until it’s nice a smooth. Next, get the oreo balls out of the fridge and wrap a piece of the peanut butter around it until you can no longer see the oreo. Refrigerate for another 20 minutes until firm. Finally, dip them into the melted chocolate holding onto the toothpick and refrigerate once more until you’re all done! Pure bliss.
