The end of summer is almost upon us but luckily, Put-in-Bay has amazing events going on including one of the biggest “going away parties” to wrap up summer. September is packed with activities and parties nearly every weekend to prolong your Summer fun even while school is in session. Whether you’re visiting Put-in-Bay, live here now, or are looking to move here, the area promises great fun and relaxation for all.
Annual Labor Day Bash at the Bay Weekend
The bash runs from September 2nd-5th and is a great chance to get together with family and friends before the school year becomes all-consuming. Visit the island to munch on Mr. Ed’s famous hamburgers, indulge in the mouthwatering lobster bisque, and hang out at the Blue Marlin Saturday pool party. Plan ahead before the celebration fills up!
Art in the Park
Local artists and craftspeople display and sell original photography, watercolor, acrylic, pottery, silversmithing, stained glass, fabric, wood, and paper downtown in an open exhibit. The event runs from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM on September 9th in DeRivera Park.
Muffins vs. Mossbacks Historical Baseball Game
You don’t want to miss this competitive baseball game between the Ohio Historical Society Muffins and the Put-in-Bay mossbacks. Watch the face off on September 10th at 2:00 PM and enjoy refreshments with all proceeds benefitting the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum.
Put-in-Bay Historical Weekend
From September 8th-10th, Put-in-Bay celebrates the 202nd anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie. Locals and visitors travel to the island to celebrate Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s victory over the British, establishing two centuries of peace between the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Over 1,000 Boy Scouts camp out in tents on the Memorial’s east lawn for their annual camporee on Lake Erie.
44th Annual New Year’s at the Bay
This mock New Year’s evening takes place in downtown Put-in-Bay on Delaware Avenue on September 15th and 16th from 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM. Streets are closed and tabled are set up for you to enjoy the Monte Carlo casino style gambling.
Half-Way to St. Patty’s Day
Celebrate the half-way mark to St. Patty’s Day on September 22nd and 23rd! The festive event celebrates the Irish with Put-in-Bay businesses promoting Irish food and beverages and an Irish parade beginning at 1:45 PM Saturday. Adults and children are invited to dress up in green or traditional Irish garb.
42nd Annual Put-in-Bay Fire Department Clambake
Sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department, you can indulge in a Clambake plate including a dozen clams, ½ chicken, corn, potato, fresh fruit, and vegetables. Get your tickets on September 23rd for $25 per person for the meal and take out is also available! All proceeds go toward updating equipment for the Put-in-Bay island fire department.
