Ohio wasn’t one of the first thirteen colonies, but that doesn’t stop Findlay from stealing the title “Flag City.” The story started with John Cooke, one of the Sons of the American Revolution, who asked door-to-door if neighbors and businesses would raise flags on Flag Day. His project lasted until 1974, when the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce asked residents to raise their flags again and campaigned for Findlay to be officially named as Flag City.
