Hebron is a small Ohio town that resides in Licking County. The town is most notable for being the home of premier drag racing, and Hebron is also home to one of the state’s largest NHRA sanctioned quarter mile tracks. Besides this, Hebron is home to lots of great history and scenery. Check out these 25 things you can do when in Hebron, Ohio!

1. Hebron Pie Festival

Each year you can visit the historic village center of Hebron while enjoying delicious pie, listening to live music, and even doing some pie events and other activities! The event is a way for family and friends to come together and enjoy entertainment and fashion traditions while supporting local vendors. All proceeds for the festival are given to the event’s beneficiary, which is typically the local Lakewood School district.

2. Robbins Hunter Museum

The Robbins Hunter Museum, listed on the National Register Of Historic Places, is a historic site special to many who residen in Hebron. The museum is also known as the Avery-Downer House, and was built in 1842 by Alfred Avery. Robbins Hunter, who the museum was named after, lived from 1956 until 1979 with hopes of the house becoming a museum one day. Antiques were collected to furnish all the rooms, and the museum was officially opened in 1981. 

3. The Sherwood-Davidson House

The Sherwood-Davidson house is located in Veterans Park on N. 6th Street in Newark. The historic house museum is packed with decorating many furnishings and houses artifacts from both Newark and Licking County. The home is situated on the present site of Park National Bank, right near the corner of Church and Third streets. The house was built originally in 1815, and is one of the oldest homes in the entire state of Ohio.  

4. The Buckingham House

The Buckingham House is a must see, acting as a classic Greek structure that dates all the way back to 1835. The home was built by Daniel Duncan but originally named after Jerome Buckingham, who was a well-known Newark resident. President Rutherford B. Hayes and President James A. Garfield are among the many famous guests who have been through this home at some point in time. In October of 1954, the house was separated into two halves and now is home to the Licking County Historical Society’s offices.

5. The Webb House

Located at 303 Granville St. in Newark, Ohio, The Webb House Museum is located at 303 Granville St. in Newark, Ohio. Approximately 15 minutes away from Hebron. The home was built in 1907 for a couple who loved to collect antiques, heirlooms, and all kinds of art. The home was designed by Carl Howell, and was so unique during its time because it was built with amenities we use today like electricity and air heating. 

6. Dawes Arboretum

The Dawes Arboretum was created in 1929 by Beman Dawes and his wife, Bertie. This scenic arboretum has over 50,000 trees that have been planted! The Dawes Arboretum's collections include over 5,300 different types of plants with more than 15,400 plants on the ground currently.

7. Hebron State Fish Hatchery

Located in southern Licking County, the Hebron State Fish Hatchery was acquired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1982. This hatchery has 63 ponds, 13 indoor rearing troughs, 25 acres of wetlands and 50 wooded acres with 2.5 miles of nature trails. The water within the hatchery is supplied by Buckeye Lake, at about 5,000 gallons per minute capacity, through a 1.5-mile section of the old Ohio-Erie Canal. Two wells, at about 370 gallons per minute capacity, also provide water to the hatchery. The most popular types of fish in this hatchery include saugeye, walleye, and channel catfish. 

8. Pigeon Roost Farm

Pigeon Roost Farm is a working family farm that was bought in 1979 originally. The land was part of the Refugee Tract, land set away by the U.S. Congress in the late 1700s as a reward for Canadian refugees who aided the Colonies during the Revolutionary War. 

9. Van Buren Acres

Van Buren Acres is a working family farm established in 2017, owned and operated by brothers David and Mark Van Buren and Mark’s wife, Catherine Baird. In Autumn, the farm is opened to the public and by appointment for farm visits so children and adults can learn about agriculture. The farm is also available to host school field-trips, church outings, family reunions, and more.

10. Infirmary Mound Park

Infirmary Mound is located about three miles south of Granville, Ohio on Ohio State Route 37. The mound now lies within Infirmary Mound Park, a 316-acre recreation area that is part of the Licking County Park District. Today the mound stands only about 3 feet in height and about 70 feet in diameter. The era of the mound’s construction is still unknown. 

11. Watkins Island

Watkins Island is a small beautiful island situated nearby to Buckeye Lake Brewery, and close to Buckeye Lake Dam. Check the island out after you have a bit to eat at the brewery.

12. Liebs Island

The Liebs Island area includes the Buckeye Lake State Park headquarters and has restrooms and extensive parking space. The picnic area which is located just to the left before crossing the bridge has had a lot of company! With lots of tall trees, turkey vultures, bald eagles, and other species of bird are spotted on the regular.

13. Ohio Canal Greenway

The Ohio Canal Greenway is a three mile multi-purpose recreational trail located on the old Penn Central Railroad right of way. The trail gives you opportunities for fishing, bird watching and hiking. Don’t forget to visit and take pictures of the beautiful wooden truss bridge. 

14. Cranberry Bog State Nature Preserve

Back in the day, Buckeye Lake was once a large wetland complex called the “Great Swamp.” The plan was to originally have the reserve be turned into a reservoir to feed the Ohio and Erie Canal system. The plan didn't end up working because the reservoir was too shallow for the canal to be fed, especially during dry season. This led to the creation of Cranberry Bog, a lake surrounded by a bog mat. You don’t come across this type of view too often, so stop by this preserve in Hebron if you love nature and gorgeous scenery. 

15. Denison Golf Club at Granville

Denison Golf Club, located in the suburb of Granville, was designed in 1924 by the world famous Scottish golf course architect, Donald Ross. This course includes a natural rolling wooden terrain along with sand bunkers and elevated greens to create settings for all of the holes. At Denison Golf Club, four tee positions are offered to ensure those of all skill levels can enjoy their golfing experience.

16.Buckeye Lake & State Park 

Buckeye Lake originally had a function as the feeder lake for Ohio's canal system during the early 1800s. Today as the landscape is studied, The old lake locations by the nature of the underlying clay and silt have been discovered. The large area of the fine clay sediment in the Buckeye Lake region proves that the glacial lake was broader than the man-made lake created originally. This lake is perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing.

17. Buckeye Lake Yacht Club

The Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, resides near Buckeye Lake Building Company, a corporation for profit, was formed with 5,000 shares at $5.00 each, authorized for the purpose of creating something for its nearby residents.

18. Moundbuilders Country Club

The Moundbuilers Country Club offers several rooms that are perfect for business meetings, private functions, socializing, and dining. The membership at this country club is made up of golfers of all abilities, who just want to spend time with friends and family along with enjoying some golf. If you’re a non golfer, you can also check out the social and clubhouse memberships.  

19. National Trail Raceway

The National Trail Raceway is about a ⅛ mile dragstrip located between Hebron and Kirkersvile, Ohio off of the U.S. Route 40. The race track is known to residents as National trails, and this raceway is also a member track of the Professional Drag Racers Association, which is a regional sanctioning body of professional quarter mile outlaw door-slammer drag racing. The one who built and constructed this race track, Clark Rader, Sr., along with both of his sons Ben and Clark, Jr., broke ground on the facility in 1963, and the construction was eventually completed in 1964. If you are a fan of watching fast cars/drag races, the National Trail Raceway is surely a sight to see. 

20. The Old Hen House

The Old Hen House in Hebron, Ohio is where you can find all things antiques and collectibles. Look at glass panels, cabinet doors, lanterns, lamps, and more!

21. Mill Dam Corner Grille

This Grille is the spot to be whenever you’re in Licking County. Mill Dam Corner Grille offers a variety of different kinds of delicious food, specialties and drinks. 22. Devine Farms Pumpkin Patch

Devine Farms is a family owned farm in Licking County on the Historic National Road. During fall season, the farm is turned into a Pumpkin Festival for 5 full weekends of family fun you wouldn’t want to miss out on. You can enjoy various activities at the pumpkin patch such as wagon rides, corn mazes, pumpkin paintings, scarecrow creations and more! This yearly Pumpkin Festival is housed in 5 farm buildings, so if there’s rain no fear! The event will go on rain or shine. 

23. Newark Earthworks

The Newark Earthworks currently exist as among the largest types of geometric earthen enclosures in the entire world. In 2006 (already existing as a national landmark), the State of Ohio deemed the Newark Earthworks as “the official prehistoric monument of the state.” You can find a variety of Interpretive signage around the park that can help to inform you about the significance of the site and the influence of the American Indians who originated from the site first. 

24. Buckeye Lake Brewery

Delicious craft beer, fun crowd, and good food from the attached Chef Shack! Enjoy time out with friends and come to this brewery for delicious food, drink, and entertainment.

This popular cafe that resides in Hebron is a must to try if you’re within the area. This cafe has a variety of great options to choose from that include pizza, strombolis, subs, burgers, appetizers, soups, salads, deserts, and more!
